Plains’ has a great opportunity for a highly motivated student to join our Environment team in our Calgary or Sherwood Park office, for a 12-month term position beginning in September 3, 2024. The work will involve supporting the environmental compliance needs of the organization through the implementation and execution of the Plains Air Program. The Intern position will be imbedded within the Environment Team and will work closely with individuals from other internal departments.

Responsibilities :

  • Conduct a review of Plains’ Air Program performance data / documentation to assess compliance with program requirements;
  • Interface with asset locations to obtain air emission data and review for accuracy and completeness;
  • Assist in coordination of air consultant reports and outputs for environmental compliance programs such as NPRI or GHG (TIER / EPS);
  • Assist in detailed data collection and review for company ESG reporting (Scope 1 / 2);
  • Support enhancements to the structures for air data record keeping and management;
  • Conduct field visits to asset locations to review data collection and record keeping practices;
  • Conduct reviews of field air emission survey data received from vendors and evaluate for completeness and accuracy, provide recommendations for improvement as warranted;
  • Develop data summaries and visualizations to highlight data trends and cost implications;
  • Day to day duties such as, record keeping, filing, collection of regulatory information, document processing, data compilation, and project / budget status tracking; and
  • Prepare and deliver a presentation to the Environment Group that summarizes the findings / learnings and output of the intern tenure.

Qualifications :

  • Candidates must be able to relocate themselves to Calgary, AB or Sherwood Park, AB for the duration of the work term;
  • Preference will be given to 3rd or 4th year students enrolled in full-time studies in a post-secondary institution, working towards a degree in the field of environmental science;
  • Candidates must be able to start on September 3, 2024 to be considered for the program;
  • Candidates must be able to commit to the full 12-month term to be considered for the program;
  • A self-starter who is driven to learn;
  • Ability to synthesize information to get to key aspects and provide supported conclusions / recommendations;
  • Prior environmental work experience in air emissions compliance, GHG emission reporting, and / or climate change is an asset;
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills, emphasizing attention to detail;
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Experience using SharePoint is an asset;
  • Proven flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business conditions;
  • Excellent computer and communication skills;
  • Ability to work well within a team environment and under minimal supervision; and
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.;
