What you'll do
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Customer Service Library & Learner Services, and Student Experience, the Library Technician plays a key role in the development and delivery of library services including, but not limited to, student and staff support services, resource management, user education / engagement, library promotion, and library resource technology support.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Library Services, Resources, and Digital Platforms
- Assessing existing library resources and services for relevance and usability and collaborating with stakeholders for continuous improvement.
- Designing and updating the library's resource platform (website), including using basic scripting as required to configure various functions to create a user-friendly web-based library and learner resource portal.
- Assessing growing trends in the digital library environment and making recommendations for operational planning or continuous improvements.
- Acting as technical lead and support for inquiries and training needs for Library staff and team development.
Copyright, Academic Integrity, and Learner Support
Acting as a copyright subject matter expert for complex (escalated) copyright inquiries, informing / updating College Copyright Standard aligned with current use and needs within the organization, and developing awareness education plans to promote compliance in accordance with Copyright rules and regulations as they apply in our College environment.Ensuring effective learning tools and resources are available on how to use and cite information responsibly, to support and promote adherence of academic integrity and copyright policies.Library Learner Services and Programming
Developing and implementing Library Learner Services programs including, but not limited to, writing / math centres, tutoring, workshops and library awareness / promotion / engagement initiatives.Supervision and Operational Oversight
Providing functional level supervision of library staff to ensure consistent delivery of programs and services, as well as delegating operational maintenance of the website pages to Library Coordinators or other Library staff.Routine supervision, following established work routines and questioning all off-standard conditions with periodic check of performance.
Reporting, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement
Data collection and reporting including usage statistics and user feedback to aid in service evaluation and evidence based operational decision making.Evaluating impact of services and developing recommendations for continuous improvement of services.Documenting procedures and workflowsRepresentation and Collaboration
Representing the College on regional Boards and or Committees as needed, to maintain networking relationships with other member institutions.Building relationships with stakeholders to ensure services and supports are effective and aligned with stakeholder objectives.What you'll need
Qualifications
Education & Experience :
Post-secondary education in a library & information technology field, or other related field, with a minimum of 3 years recent and related experience, including demonstrated experience with content development of online / digital library management tools and library applications, including working in digital library service management platforms; online databases.Demonstrated experience and knowledge as a subject matter expert for Copyright compliance and supporting academic integrity, citation and referencing practices.Completed Copyright certificate training.Knowledge and experience establishing access and application of open educational resources (OER) .Experience in facilitating information or collaboration sessions with stakeholders.Professional Skills :
Highly flexible with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to navigate and build relationships effectively.Demonstrated problem-solving skills, analytical ability, and innovative thinking.High degree of computer literacy skills including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and knowledge of working with webpage scripting languages.Strong facilitation / presentation skills.Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.Self-motivated, service and results oriented.Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, independently and within a team.A desire for continuous learning and growth.Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.Assets :
Demonstrated experience with Learning Management SystemsExperience working in an academic library environmentExperience working in a post-secondary environment.Candidates must possess a valid Driver's License as travel will be required.
