Position Overview

ABC Recycling is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate equipment and the mobile shear-attached machine along with thumb and bucket attachments. This role is primarily based out of Burnaby, BC but may require working offsite around the lower mainland and has the potential for travel outside of the region. The job holder will be responsible for safe operation of a Cat 336 excavator with a Thumb and bucket and mobile shear attachment, sorting, loading, off loading and processing scrap metal to specifications. This is a full time, year-round job opportunity with many opportunities for increased earnings through overtime and site-based project work. The ideal candidate is attentive, flexible, and wanting a long-term career.

Responsibilities

• Sorts and processes materials to customer specifications using various attachments such as the bucket and thumb and Labounty shear.
• Loads and unloads materials from and into various bins, dumps, trailers, and rail cars.
• Assesses situational risks and mitigates safety and environmental concerns.
• Performs minor maintenance tasks such as lubrication, blade alignment and tensioning.
• Participates in the development and design of processes.
• Assists in the analysis of process improvements and development of solutions.
• Gains awareness of and contributes to implementing industry best practices.
• Self-manages when operating off site.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating different types of excavators, material handlers, and other heavy equipment such as wheel loaders would be an asset.
• Must have previous work experience using bucket and thumb.
• Prior experience with scrap metal recycling, operating bucket and thumb or shear attachment in demolition would be a definite asset.
• Mechanical aptitude coupled with strong hand/eye coordination.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Safety conscious.
• Flexibility with work shifts and ability to travel occasionally.
