Role Summary
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Puslinch, ON. As a Senior Controls Systems Designer / Programmer, you will take ownership of the design, architecture, and programming of control systems for custom industrial automation equipment.
You will work hands-on with PLCs, robotics, vision, motion, and safety systems , while providing technical leadership across projects and supporting customers through commissioning and system integration.
The role is scoped at a senior level; however, we are open to strong intermediate candidates who can grow into full system ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the design, development, implementation, documentation, and troubleshooting of control systems for complex custom automation projects
- Architect and program PLC-based control systems from concept , including HMIs, servo drives, robotics, safety systems, and vision systems
- Design and implement SCADA systems using Ignition , including system architecture, data structures, alarms, historian, and visualization (as required)
- Design and integrate industrial communication networks (EtherNet / IP, EtherCAT, serial communications, etc.)
- Develop and support robotic applications (Fanuc, ABB, Denso, Motoman, etc.)
- Configure and commission AC / DC drives, VFDs, and servo motion systems
- Design and integrate machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Banner, Omron)
- Support machine start-ups, commissioning, debugging, safety validation, and robot teaching
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, controls, and system-level issues , both internally and at customer sites
- Initiate and support preliminary PHSRs and collaborate with Safety Engineers
- Own system documentation including drawing updates, control narratives, operation manuals, and electronic backups
- Provide technical support and leadership during integration and service activities
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to intermediate and junior controls team members
Qualifications & Experience
Degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation & Robotics , or a related discipline7+ years of experience in controls system design and factory automation integration (or equivalent practical experience)Strong experience with :PLC programming (from scratch)Motion control and servo systemsRobotics, machine vision, and safety systemsExperience designing and deploying(Ignition certification considered a strong asset)
Proven ability to own and deliver automation projects through integration and commissioningSolid understanding of electrical design principles , including power calculations, wiring methods, fuse sizing, and component selectionFamiliarity with applicable codes and standards (CSA, NFPA, CE, SEMI, EN, etc.)Strong communication skills with the ability to interface confidently with customers, vendors, and internal teamsOrganized, pragmatic problem-solver comfortable working in fast-paced project environmentsWillingness to travel internationally as required (including USA and Mexico)Flexibility to support projects during critical commissioning periodsWhat We Offer

The total compensation may vary depending on the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
