Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for one tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant / Associate Professor in the Department of Indigenous Learning to commence January 1, (there is flexibility to the start date).

At Lakehead University the disciplinary home of Indigenous Studies is known as the Department of Indigenous Learning. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate.

The Department of Indigenous Learning is interested in well-rounded candidates who balance research with a commitment to teaching and service.

Applicants should have completed a PhD in Indigenous Studies or an Indigenous Studies-related field by the time of appointment or be in the final stages of their PhD Candidacy.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in the northern regions of Turtle Island and organizations outside of academe;
  • Experience grounded in community relationships;
  • Experience with innovative pedagogical practices;
  • Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery; and
  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person with strong ties to Indigenous nation(s) and Indigenous knowledges will be considered a significant asset.

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.

Located on the Thunder Bay campus in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Department of Indigenous Learning is an interdisciplinary program that encourages Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to develop a deep and rigorous understanding of Indigenous intellectual traditions and Indigenous / settler relations.

The department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree (Indigenous Learning Major), the Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (Indigenous Learning Major), and a minor in Indigenous Learning combined with another discipline.
