Physician Assistant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The Physician Assistant will provide clinical services under the direct supervision of ED staff physicians and play a key role in supporting the patient experience. Expected duties and responsibilities will include :

• " Obtain health and social histories;
• " Conduct physical assessments and interpret findings;
• " Activate medical directives and complete preliminary interpretations of necessary diagnostic tests including but not limited to ECGs, laboratory tests, and diagnostic imaging;
• " Perform procedures such as ECG, casting, suturing, application of orthopedic devices, slit lamp examination, measuring intraocular pressure, visual acuity;
• " Formulate treatment plans and support appropriate connections to consultants, allied health, outpatient clinics and support any other services / special needs for the patient;
• " Documentation of patient encounters;

" Supporting physicians with health care technology and applications such as Connecting Ontario and hospital applications including the Clinical Information System, Order Set repository, and bedside ultrasound.

As an integrated member of the health care team and support to the ED Physician, the Physician Assistant will have a strong desire for life-long learning, quality improvement, patient safety and collaborative team-based care.

QUALIFICATIONS :

" Active registration or eligibility for registration as a Physician Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario

" Graduate of MOHLTC- approved program including the Canadian Forces Physician Assistant Training Program, Graduate of a Canadian or American Physician Assistant Training Program, or trained International Medical Graduate
