  • Position Summary

    Reporting to the Clinical Manager Out-Patient Mental Health and Addictions Social Work Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.

    The Coordinator MH Early Psychosis Program is responsible for the co-ordination of the daily operations of the mental health program. This will involve overall responsibility for the provision of administrative support to the department as well as data collection and addition the incumbent will co-ordinate the daily operations of the department to ensure adequate staffing monitoring attendance and ensuring that all department policies and processes are being followed.

    The EPI Coordinator is the designated subject matter expert for the Early Psychosis team and Outpatient Mental Health Programs. They assist the clinical team to provide trauma informed evidence based mental health care for all people who have experienced acute mental health concerns the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and BCHSs mission vision values and policies.

  • Usually the primary point of contact for the program.
  • Oversees the screening and enrolment of clients and family members into the program.
  • Work with staff both inside the organization and in the wider community to ensure that people with early episode psychosis get referred.
  • Support the EPI team.
  • Primary Responsibilities

  • Works with the interdisciplinary team to design and implement excellent delivery models that include clinical pathway development establishing new client care services and programs that improve the Department services for clients family and community
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with key community stakeholders (School Boards Satellite partners etc.) and leads the departments Community Advisory Committee ensuring representation from various stakeholder groups (clients family members community partners) on the Committee
  • Liaises with all medical staff and students including program psychiatrists
  • Develops collection methods and provides clinical data analysis on service utilization which is used to measure performance of program by ensuring the implementation and MHA PDS compliance.
  • Collaborates in the design and implementation of methods and techniques to continuously improve the delivery of service with attention to patient flow and intake pressures and ensures excellence in patient care.
  • Ensures the collection and reporting of financial and service data including the monthly quarterly and year-end reporting of waitlist MIS data and required information for through Ontario Health Centre of Excellence
  • Provides leadership in the development of new initiatives by creating an environment that encourages creativity innovation and critical thinking among the interdisciplinary team
  • Develops implements and evaluates staff education and training programs in collaboration with relevant resources
  • Contributes to education and professional development of staff students and colleagues in an environment of mutual respect and understanding.
  • Works with the interdisciplinary team to design and implement excellent delivery models that include clinical pathway development establishing new client care services and programs that improve the Department services for clients family and community
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with key community stakeholders (School Boards Satellite partners etc.) and leads the departments Community Advisory Committee ensuring representation from various stakeholder groups (clients family members community partners) on the Committee
  • Engages in review of complaints / compliments for assigned areas including investigation and resolution of same.
  • Fosters an environment which facilitates the use of evidence informed practices ongoing professional development and interdisciplinary care research and program evaluation
  • Maintains own competency in accordance with relevant professional standards
  • The coordinator facilitates educational and outreach activities for both the Early Psychosis Intervention Program as well as for the hospital and its community partners. They advocate for the best practice that is inclusive equitable and culturally competent by building collaborative interprofessional and intersectoral relationships.
  • Provides clinical education and support to patients families and care givers in partnership with family support social worker.
  • This position will be expected to assess plan implement and evaluate clinical care utilizing a newly adopted care pathway that is designed to deliver standardized evidence-based treatments including the delivery of the NAVIGATE Early Intervention Model of Care; in this role you will provide the
  • Individual Resiliency Training
  • (IRT) component of this intervention model. This model provides a framework for mental health assessment monitors client responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions with an emphasis on resilience and collaborative care. This position requires a sound knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation crisis intervention addiction issues severe and persistent mental illness and an understanding of schizophrenia primary mood disorders with psychosis and other presentations of psychosis.
  • Mandatory Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree in related discipline required (Nursing Occupational Therapy Social Work)
  • CPR First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Certification required
  • 3-5 years practical and related experience in Mental Health and Addictions on the job training required

  • Current and demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health Act Healthcare Consent Act Substitute Decisions Act and Privacy Legislation
  • Strong organizational time management and interpersonal skills.
