Reporting to the Support Services Supervisor, Watson Lake Community Hospital, the incumbent prepares and cooks meals for patients / residents / customers according to prescribed departmental policies and procedures.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required :

  • Thorough knowledge of Food Safety practices
  • Knowledge of Institutional Cooking methods and practices
  • Knowledge of Basic Nutrition and Therapeutic Diets
  • Knowledge of Sanitation & Occupational Health and Safety Practices
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills (both oral and written)
  • Demonstrated skills in working with diverse populations
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and take action within scope of practice
  • Cross cultural awareness and sensitivity

The successful applicant will have a Cooking Diploma / Certificate (minimum 1 year course length), two (2) years of institutional and / or healthcare cooking experience, Food Safe 1 certificate, and a valid class 5 Yukon drivers’ license. An equivalent combination of education, training and / or experience may be considered.
