Job Description
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients who are identified as less complex, demonstrate more predictable outcomes and are at lower risk for negative outcomes in pre and post operative care. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RPN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.
Accountabilities :
- Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process : assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
- Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being during and after any ambulatory care procedures including arthroscopy, gynecology, cystoscopy, endoscopy or cataract
- Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
- Practicing according to the infection control and prevention measures
- Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
- Providing health teaching to patients and families including thorough discharge instructions to ensure the continuity of care in the community
Qualifications
Recent experience within the last five years with a minimum of two years of operating room experience requiredOperating Room certificateKnowledge of Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada of standards of practiceMust be able to wear lead apron and standing for long periods of timeMust be able to respond to on call within 30 minutesCore competencies :
Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of OntarioSound knowledge of nursing process, theory and responsibilities to the nursing profession and must be able to work to the full scope of practice of a Registered Practical NurseCPR-HCPMedication Administration certificate and Patient Assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005 (certificates must be submitted with applications and prior to the interview phase)Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills requiredDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional teamDemonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred careDemonstrated experience with patient and family health teachingDemonstrated leadership and facilitation skillsDemonstrated high level of professionalism, organizational and critical-thinking skillsDemonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related fieldDemonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environmentExemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient careExcellent physical assessment skillsAbility to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions to ensure timely patient care deliveryAbility to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelinesKnowledge, understanding and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety ActAbility to learn and work with information systems / technologyMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationMay be required to travel and work between all Osler sitesExcellent attendance, punctuality and work recordAdditional Information
Hours : Currently weekdays and weekends (8 hour days, evenings with night call) and statutory holidays
(subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)
Salary :
Minimum : $35.29 per hour
Maximum : $38.16 per hour
