Overview
Our client, a growing organization headquartered in downtown Victoria, is seeking a Senior Controller to lead its finance operations. This position will bring structure, accuracy, and forward-looking insight to the company’s financial operations, while fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, and skilled in both tactical execution and strategic financial guidance. They will play a key role in supporting leadership across multiple departments and ensuring alignment with the organization’s financial and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute all aspects of accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close.
- Manage and mentor a small finance team, currently one direct report.
- Partner closely with department heads to guide budgeting, forecasting, and financial literacy within each function.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, providing meaningful insights to leadership to support informed decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with both Canadian and US tax and financial reporting requirements, including hands-on preparation and submission.
- Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation to support scalability.
- Utilize and optimize the organization’s NetSuite ERP system (mandatory), with additional exposure to Salesforce or Ceridian Dayforce considered an asset.
- Provide proactive financial analysis to support growth initiatives, operational improvements, and business planning.
- Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders, ensuring clarity and shared understanding across the leadership team.
- Contribute to a positive and accountable workplace culture aligned with the company’s new direction and leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.Experience managing both Canadian and US financial operations and submitting US tax filings.CPA designation preferred (open to candidates in the final stages of completion).5–7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally within small to mid-sized private organizations.Proven ability to collaborate across departments and support non-financial leaders with financial decision-making.Strong working knowledge of NetSuite ERP (required); familiarity with Salesforce or Ceridian Dayforce is an advantage.Hands-on, self-sufficient approach with a balance of strategic insight and operational execution.Professional, approachable, and emotionally intelligent; able to build trust and communicate effectively at all levels.Full-time, in-office role based in downtown Victoria, BC.Occasional travel to the US may be required in the future.The organization is privately held, growth-oriented, and committed to developing a healthy, collaborative, and high-performance culture.To apply, please submit your resume directly to : Alexandra.Bunardzic@summitsearchgroup.com
