What We’re Looking For :
Roam is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and people‑focused Finance and Administration Director to join our senior leadership team.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this role provides organizational leadership and oversight across the Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Administration teams. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Board, ensuring Roam’s internal operations are financially sound, compliant, and aligned with the organization’s long‑term priorities. As a member of the senior leadership team, you’ll champion Roam’s core values of Passion, Resourcefulness, Kindness, and Inclusivity.
This is a full‑time role, which will require the successful candidate be located in the Bow Valley and split time between Roam’s Canmore and Banff offices as required.
Responsibilities :
Strategic and Departmental Leadership
- Provide cross‑functional leadership to Finance, HR, IT, Customer Service, and Office Administration, ensuring these functions operate efficiently and cohesively.
- Serve as a key advisor to the CEO on financial strategy, organizational planning, performance metrics, and risk management.
- Develop, track, and report on key financial and operational indicators to inform and support sound decision‑making.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, benefit providers, and regulatory bodies.
- Attend and contribute to monthly board meetings, presenting to partner Councils as required.
Financial Management
Lead the development and oversight of operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and long‑term financial plans.Oversee all financial reporting, month‑end and year‑end close, and the annual audit process, ensuring accuracy and integrity; Act as the key contact with Roam’s external auditors.Maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures that support transparency, accountability, and risk mitigation.Oversee payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger functions, and banking transactions / reconciliations.Support grant applications and reporting for government and external funding sources.Human Resources Oversight
Provide strategic oversight of HR programs, policies, and initiatives including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with employment legislation.Oversee administration of employee benefits, pension, and insurance programs.Promote an inclusive, positive workplace culture focused on employee engagement and development.Information Technology and Office Administration Oversight
Provide leadership on the evaluation, implementation, and integration of financial, HR, Customer Service, and IT systems.Support the establishment of IT systems that protect organizational data and enable operational efficiency.Oversee administrative functions including records management, procurement coordination, facility operations, and regulatory reporting.This is a hands‑on Director role. You’ll roll up your sleeves and actively contribute to the daily delivery of financial and administrative services, while also shaping strategy and guiding a small team as Roam continues to grow.
Qualifications : Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) is required.Experience
7+ years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management capacity.Demonstrated experience in Administration, HR, and IT oversight in a public sector or multi‑functional organization is a strong asset.Experience in municipal government, public transit, or transportation sectors considered advantageous.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
In‑depth knowledge of public sector financial reporting standards, including Canadian GAAP, public sector accounting, and regulatory requirements relevant to municipalities or government‑funded organizations.Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, including development of multi‑year capital and operational plans.Strong understanding of payroll, benefits, and pension administration, including compliance with Alberta Employment Standards, CRA requirements, and LAPP administration.Experience leading audits and working with external auditors.Strategic leadership and decision‑making skills, with the ability to align financial and administrative operations to long‑term organizational goals.Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing staff, including providing effective supervision and empowering teams to ensure Roam’s mission and values are consistently upheld.Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess financial and operational risks and implement effective solutions.Advanced proficiency in financial systems and data tools, including accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar), budgeting and forecasting software (eg., Questica / Euna or similar), MS Office Suite, payroll systems, HRIS, and cloud‑based platforms.Strong leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills.Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive continuous improvement.High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when managing confidential information.What We Offer :
