Schedule : Full time seasonal; 35 hours / week; Wed | Thu | Sun 9 : 00am-4 : 30pm; Fri | Sat 1 : 00pm-8 : 30pm
Job Location : Wells Gray Provincial Park (4 days / week), Working at a computer in your home workspace (1 day / week)

Discover Parks Ambassadors work in provincial parks across BC to create amazing experiences that inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate, enjoy, and care for British Columbia's parks and protected places. We are seeking energetic, motivated individuals with a deep respect for the natural environment to deliver educational experiences in Wells Gray Provincial Park, ensuring a welcoming and engaging experience.
What does a typical day look like?
While in parks daily tasks include program promotion, delivering programs on trail, engaging with visitors, program planning, and collecting and reporting program metrics. You will always be interacting with visitors, sharing insight about the park’s biodiversity and inspiring environmental awareness. Your weekly schedule will include at least two weekend afternoon and evening shifts to facilitate the much-loved evening educational amphitheatre programs. On your work from home days, you will collaborate with your teammates to research program updates, plan for the upcoming week, and submit reports on program performance, supplies and equipment.
Responsibilities
Interact and engage with park visitorsEducate visitors on how to enjoy parks responsibly and promote programs through information booths and roving around the park
Guide nature walks and hikes on Wells Gray's trails (1-5 hours long)Run activities and games for children and families in parks, including the existing Jerry’s Rangers programPresent evening family-friendly interpretive programs in the campgroundPromote iNaturalist and other community science initiativesResearch park flora, fauna, and local ecology to support program deliveryDevelop and deliver new programs when requiredMonitor and report daily interaction statisticsJoin virtual weekly check-ins with the Discover Parks Ambassador teamAdministrative tasks such as printing, purchasing supplies, expense claims, timesheets, email & Slack correspondence, and equipment organizationSupport the marketing team by creating social media content to help with program promotionCollect iNaturalist observations with a mobile deviceContribute to a safe work environmentRequirements
A love of the environment and the outdoorsComfortable making presentations, talking to visitors, and leading toursEnjoy interacting with large crowds and having lots of conversations (100+ per day in some parks)Experience working or volunteering with childrenAbility to work in a remote environment, while staying connected with a team onlineAbility to lift and move program equipment (up to 30lbs)Ability to stay on your feet for extended periods of time and work in all types of weather conditionsDriver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (4x4 an asset) for accessing program locations within the park and moving program equipment (preference for a 4x4 or AWD vehicle that can transport a 6ft collapsible tent). Must also be comfortable driving on a dirt / gravel roadPersonal computer with video conferencing capabilities and strong internet connectionPersonal mobile phoneWilderness First Aid 40hr certification or higherCriminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search (will be completed during the hiring process)Skills and Experience Considered an Asset
Post-secondary study in environmental sciences, natural resource management, conservation or educationFluency in additional languagesCommitment to Equity
