ABOUT THE ROLE

The Special Events Intern provides vital support in planning, coordinating, promoting, and executing fundraising initiatives for St. Joseph’s Foundation . Working closely with the President and the Philanthropy Associate Annual Fund and Events, the Intern helps ensure the success of the Foundation’s signature events, third-party fundraisers, and donor stewardship activities.

This role offers hands-on experience in event planning and philanthropy, while fostering the Foundation’s mission of inspiring generosity to support the health care needs of our community.

Signature events include St. Joseph’s Golf Classic, Curl for Care, and the Walk for Diabetic Footwear , as well as the Secret Santa Gift Program .

This posting is for a newly created position within the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Signature Events Support

Assist in all aspects of the Foundation’s signature events—including the Annual Golf Classic, Curl for Care, and Walk for Diabetic Footwear—helping to coordinate logistics, timelines, and execution.

Support staff and volunteers with event planning, promotion, sponsorship fulfillment, and day-of activities.

Help coordinate event materials, registration processes, and donor / guest follow-up.

Contribute to post-event reporting, stewardship, and evaluation, ensuring accurate records and meaningful recognition.

Assist in identifying and cultivating opportunities to enhance revenue streams and broaden attendance for events.

Provide on-site event support, including set-up, take-down, and the operation of displays, marketing materials, and promotions.

Coordinate transportation of equipment and materials to and from event sites.

Third-Party Events

Support the Philanthropy Associate by serving as a liaison for community-led fundraisers benefiting the Foundation.

Assist with providing guidance, promotional support, and stewardship for organizers of third-party events.

Help ensure proper recognition of event hosts, sponsors, and participants.

Track and report on revenue and donor engagement resulting from these initiatives.

Donor Stewardship Support

Assist with stewardship activities to thank, recognize, and engage donors at all levels.

Support the creation and preparation of personalized thank-you letters, impact reports, and donor communications..

Support donor recognition activities, such as events, plaques, and public acknowledgments.

Help track donor milestones (e.g., anniversaries, special achievements) and support timely, meaningful outreach.

Ensure excellent donor care through responsiveness, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach.

Administrative & Program Support

Prepare plans, schedules, and materials for event and committee meetings.

Assist with the marketing and promotion of events through social media and web-based platforms.

Develop and evaluate work plans and timelines; help coordinate and schedule volunteers.

Order supplies and services as required.

Maintain accurate and complete records of events, donors, and sponsor engagements.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the Foundation’s mission.

WHAT YOU BRING

Qualifications :

Recent graduate or post-secondary student (or within the eligibility timeframe defined by NOHFC) in communications, marketing, event management, fundraising, media studies, or a related field, seeking hands-on, career-building experience.

Skills / Abilities :

Demonstrated interest in developing professional skills related to event planning, fundraising, communications, and community engagement within a charitable or non-profit environment.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a supportive but fast-paced setting.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to contribute positively to donor, sponsor, and community-facing communications.

Experience or demonstrated aptitude in social media content creation and posting , including drafting captions, supporting campaigns, and promoting events across digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Introductory to intermediate skills in photography and videography , including capturing photos and short videos at events for promotional, storytelling, and reporting purposes.

Familiarity with basic photo and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, or similar) or a willingness to learn.

Comfort working with computers, digital tools, and web-based platforms; experience with databases or CRM systems is considered an asset.

Ability to work collaboratively with Foundation staff, volunteers, and community partners, while also developing independence and professional confidence.

Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events and community activities, as required.

A demonstrated interest in community development and philanthropy in Northern Ontario, and a willingness to learn about donor stewardship and charitable operations.

Conditions of Employment :

This position shall be conditional upon a satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) where indicated, to ensure the absence of relevant criminal convictions.

NOHFC Requirements :

The following eligibility requirements must be met under the NOHFC funding program :

New entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field;

Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship;

Are at least 18 years of age; and

Reside, and be legally entitled to work, in Canada.
