Senior Project Accountant / Assistant Controller

Location : Surrey, BC

Industry : Real Estate Development & Construction

Salary : $80,000 – $110,000K + Benefits

Our client, a growing real estate development and construction company, is seeking a Senior Project Accountant / Assistant Controller to join their finance team. This is a hands-on senior role for someone with deep, “hardcore” construction accounting experience who can manage complex project financials and support corporate accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle project and corporate accounting for active construction and development projects
  • Prepare and review bank draws, progress claims, change orders, stat decks, proformas, and budget-to-actual variance analysis
  • Oversee job costing, working papers, reconciliations, and cash flow tracking
  • Payroll processing, GST filings, and statutory remittances
  • Maintain accounting records in QuickBooks
  • Partner with project managers, lenders, and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Identify issues, resolve discrepancies, and improve accounting processes
  • Support month-end, year-end, and audits; corporate tax exposure is an asset
  • (Assistant Controller scope) Support or lead a small accounting team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, on CPA track or have CPA designation
  • 5+ years of construction accounting experience, ideally with a developer or builder
  • Strong understanding of bank financing, draws, progress billing, GST, and reconciliations
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Sage and Payroll
  • Background as a Senior Project Accountant, Assistant Controller, or similar
  • Highly organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
