YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations. We offer licensed child care, settlement services, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. We operate overnight camps and have 15 Health & Fitness branches.

Qualifications & Experience
Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool (current certificate required)Standard First Aid and CPR-C (current certificate required)YMCA Swim Instructor, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (current certificate required)Lifesaving Instructor and Emergency First Aid Instructor — an assetPrevious lifeguard experience — an assetPrevious volunteer experience within Aquatics — an assetExperience working with children, youth, and adults — an assetExceptional communication skills, relationship‑building skills, and organizational skillsCurrent and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector ScreeningLegally entitled to work in CanadaCompensation / Benefits

Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating core values dailyResponsible for lifeguard duties during recreational swims, swim lessons, Aqua fitness, and all other programming within the Aquatics environmentProvide competent swim instruction in individual and group lessons; may assist with volunteer development in a co‑teaching situationActively monitor all participants in the lesson and be ready to assist in case of emergencyBe able to enter the pool at all times to assist members / program participants in case of emergency95% of work time is spent in the pool or on the pool deck / waterfront in moist, humid climate conditionsManage varying amounts of weight to assist members / program participants in the water in case of emergency and to lift / use chemicalsAttend and participate in lifeguard and swim instructor trainings as per scheduleRecord lesson participants’ progress and share with guardiansEnsure all policies and procedures are followedBe committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belongingWe thank all applicants for their interest; however only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
