An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand daily practice operations and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners. Baywood Animal Hospital, located in Midhurst, ON, is a small animal general practice.

Students will work closely with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Externs will also have opportunities to improve communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. Veterinary students in their 4th or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
