Job Description
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Programs, the Programming and Outreach Assistant (Student) will provide children’s and technology program delivery and outreach and evaluation specifically relating to the Summer Reading Club. A final report on program and outreach activities will be prepared for the Supervisor, Programs. The position candidate will also perform customer service assistance for children and youth as required.
Job Requirements
Formal education in progress in education, early childhood education, recreation, or library services preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be comfortable working with the public, especially children. Previous experience working with children is a strong asset.
Ability to travel within the Town of Newmarket and transport up to 45 lbs of outreach material required. A valid Ontario Drivers License and access to a vehicle considered an asset.
Previous experience in the delivery of children’s programming.
Demonstrated experience providing direct customer service in person and remote technology (video meetings, phone, and other collaboration tools) with ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, program participants and their parents / caregivers, staff, and organizations.
Familiarity with personal computers including Microsoft Office and Teams (specifically, word processing and spreadsheet tools) and the ability to find, evaluate and communicate information through various online platforms is required. Experience with computerized library applications is an asset.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, instructional, organizational, time management skills and written and program delivery skills.
Ability to adapt to and embrace change.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Familiarity with creative technologies such as 3D printing and digital design is an asset.
Basic knowledge of library reference and reader's advisory services is an asset.
