Halifax Public Libraries invites INTERNAL and EXTERNAL applications for the  full-time, permanent  position of Programming and Community Engagement Lead, for the Basin District based out of Sackville Public Library and Bedford Public Library.

This is a unionized position. Preference will be given to internal applicants from the NSUPE Local 14 bargaining unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Programming and Community Engagement (PACE) Lead will :

  • Plan, develop and evaluate programs and services to meet community needs.
  • Lead a team of Specialists who work in the district.
  • Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with key contacts and community partners.
  • Create and monitor various budgets, spending and reporting requirements for budgets and grants
  • Develop and implement promotion plans for programming and community work with Marketing and Communications.
  • Provide programs and services and participate in community engagement, modelling excellent program and service delivery for staff.
  • Collect performance measures, identify trends, write reports, and create action plans.
  • Work with other Leads to develop regional approaches, programs and services.
  • Act as Person in Charge in both library branches

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

Education and Experience :

  • Graduate Degree in Library Science, Information or another Human Services Field & two (2) years of related experience
  • OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree & four (4) years of related experience
  • OR

  • Two (2) years of Post-Secondary & six (6) years of related experience
  • Required :

  • Read and write English
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to provide instruction, coaching and training
  • Demonstrated ability to address staff performance issues
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved communities
  • Experience in program planning, delivery and evaluation
  • Understanding of best practices in community engagement
  • Experience with partnership development
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills including : Functions of a web browser Microsoft office applications Social media applications
  • Intermediate technology skills including : Willingness to learn and experiment with additional tools and technologiesWillingness to support others in learning technical skills and concepts
  • Assets :

  • Knowledge of related community groups, organizations and services
  • Fluency in a second language
  • Facilitation skills
  • TRAVEL

    The job will require frequent travel between our various library branches and community sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Access to reliable transportation is required.
