Your opportunity :

Working under the direction of the Manager, Finance & Administration, you will perform a wide range of financial responsibilities in the Facilities Management Department. Primary responsibilities include advising staff on accountable operations of budgets with multiple sources of revenue and / or recoveries while applying University policies, procedures and the Guide to Financial Management. You will forecast and plan financial activities, monitor, track, and reconcile department budgets, record, identify and resolve discrepancies, prepare statistics showing expenditure trends and projections, and generate financial reports.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
  • Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
  • Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and / or recoveries
  • Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
  • Collating comparative statistics showing expenditure trends and projections of year end
  • Retrieving information from multiple sources of data
  • Directing the activities of a single ongoing staff-appointed employee

Essential Qualifications :

  • Undergraduate degree in business, with a specialization in finance or accounting and working toward an Accounting designation or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of fours years of related financial and accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with monthly statement reconciliation, budget preparation, forecasting & analysis, report generation, cost recovery, and financial management
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving and organizational skills, initiative and analytical skills.
  • In depth working knowledge of the University of Toronto's guidelines, policies and procedures and sound working knowledge of AMS, including Financial Information System (FIS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is preferred. Understanding of budgeting procedures is required.
  • Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel (e.g., VLock Up, What-ifstatements, Pivot tables), email and internet is required.
  • Must have demonstrated commitment to service excellence and demonstrated ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels of the organization and clients.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team to support the financial and administrative operations of the department
  • Must be able to multi-task and meet deadlines and exercise accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must possess tact, diplomacy, sound judgement and a positive and professional attitude

  • Experience supervising, preferably in a unionized environment.

    USW Pay Band 13 $86,340. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $110,415. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation / Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
