Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Intermediate Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics is responsible for working with the Engineering Team on the design, development, and testing of switch-mode power conversion equipment.
As an Intermediate Electrical Engineer – Power Electronics, your main responsibilities will include (but not limited to) :
- Responsible for the design, development, and testing of switch-mode power conversion equipment in the 100W to 100kW power range
- Work closely with firmware designers to define project firmware / software requirements
- Provide technical assistance to customers in support of new product development and legacy product support as required
- Review customer specifications and requirements and assist in the generation of bids and proposals
- Provide budget, cost and schedule inputs for engineering projects and job assignments
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
- Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
- Develop prototypes to resolve key development risks
- Generate engineering documentation in support of design activities and customer requirements, including specifications, test procedures and reports, failure reports, design analysis, program progress reports, and configuration management inputs
- Work collaboratively with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Program Management to achieve material and labour design-to-cost targets
What you require to be successful in the role :
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent work experienceMinimum of five (5) years of experience in electrical design in a light manufacturing environmentP. Eng. designation, and eligible for registration with Engineers NSFamiliarity with the application of military and commercial standards to electrical designs is requiredExperience reading schematics and engineering specs, with a strong ability to troubleshootDemonstrated understanding and strong interests in power electronics and power converters designDemonstrated application of electronic theory, principles of electrical circuits, testing procedures and related knowledge to construct and debug power electronics circuitry in relation to the design of power conversion equipmentStrong ability to analyze, record, and interpret test data to determine product acceptabilityInvolvement in the design, development, modification, and analysis of various electronics systemsSupports engineering with a variety of complex engineering duties and / or hands on tasksAnalyzes, records, and interprets test data to determine product acceptability. Recommends changes in method or installation specifications to simplify tests or reduce test timesMulti-Layer Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design capabilities considered an assetKnowledge of CAN, SPI, USB, I2C, RS485, RS232 communication protocols to new product designs considered an assetBenefits of working with DRS
