Overview
This is administrative and technical work at the sub-professional level involving the coordination of design, contract documentation, contract administration and contractors on construction projects. An employee of this class prepares related reports, project specifications, schedules, cost estimates, conducts field inspections, recommends subdivision design criteria, investigates traffic problems, prepares drawings and maps and responds to related enquiries. Considerable independence of judgment and action are exercised within the parameters of overall project priorities established by a superior. Policy matters, complex problems, project status and significant budgetary matters are discussed with a superior who reviews the work in terms of effectiveness of services provided and attainment of desired objectives.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma and considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License.
Requirements
Considerable knowledge of technical engineering and construction principles, practices and procedures applicable to the work performed.Considerable knowledge of construction materials, costs and methods related to the work performed.Working knowledge of zoning, bylaws, standards and related municipal legislation governing the work performed.Provides technical support where neededCoordinates design, contract documentation and contract administration for various construction and installation projects; participates in the review and selection of consultants / contractors.Attends project meetings; assists in the preparation of terms of reference, reports, schedules, contracts and cost estimates; evaluates and selects construction materials and components.Coordinates engineering and construction firms to ensure desired results; reviews plans and drawings at various stages for conformance to project guidelines and established standards; monitors work progress.Prepares and maintains a variety of materials such as records, technical and status reports, correspondence and project specifications; performs design and layout work for minor capital projects; prepares and recommends subdivision and rezoning design criteria and servicing agreements.Reviews invoices, change orders and other payment claims for accuracy, recommends approval or investigates discrepancies.Conducts field inspections; ensures that all work performed is in accordance with contractual terms and established regulations; arbitrates minor disputes regarding contract interpretations, construction practices, standards and methods; reviews and approves proposed changes in the field within defined limits; monitors and assesses construction progress; reviews finale inspection reports to authorize release of security bonds.Ability to analyze, assess and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, contracts and other materials related to the work.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts.Investigates traffic problems in response to complaints and enquiries; analyzes traffic counter data and recommends routine solutions such as alterations to line painting, as needed.Reviews utility and sewer connection applications, as needed.Perform other duties as assigned and required.The City is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is committed to promoting and preserving a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
