JOB PROFILE SUMMARY

Responsible for conducting appraisals of insured dwellings of varying complexity across. The appraisal establishes an accurate replacement cost estimate, creates a concise record for features, finishes, utilities and overall construction, and helps clients manage risks to their home and possessions. The role includes initiatives aimed at providing personal growth opportunities, while supporting overall department goals.

Customer

• Conduct insurance appraisals of TD's residential risks. Appraisal reports establish adequate coverage amounts, identify potential additional coverage needs, document and photograph materials, finishes and unique characteristics, and provide end-to-end risk mitigation and client consultation.
• Coordinate insurance oversight of construction projects, both renovation and new construction, and ensure adherence to agreed-upon timelines and loss control measures
• Contribute to the legendary customer experience by collaborating with internal and external partners while demonstrating accuracy
• Manage customer relationships, promoting the TD brand by acting as the face of the company during appraisals.
• Analyze and resolve disputes related to customer complaints, replacement cost and risk engineering, etc.
• Review quotes of complex risks to provide replacement cost and risk management guidance.
• Quality control reviews of appraisal reports from internal staff as well as vendor companies.

• Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area
• Ensure respective programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities
• Exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate
• Ensure business operations follow internal and external compliance requirements. (e.g., segregation of duties and physical control of assets)
• Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
• Advance internal and external research projects; support the development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience
• Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices
• Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own function and implement continuous process / performance improvements where opportunities exist
• Lead / facilitate and/or implement actions / remediation plans to address performance / risk /governance issues
• Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate and/or control functions, and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
• Protect the interests of the organization – identify and manage risks, and escalate non-standard, high-risk activities as necessary
• Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts
• Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

BREADTH & DEPTH:

• High-proficiency professional role requiring a sound working knowledge of residential construction, replacement cost valuations, and loss control / risk management
• Integrate the broader organizational context into advice and solutions within own area
• Understands the industry, competition and the factors that differentiate the organization
• Applies best practices to implement process, product or service improvements
• Functions as a subject matter resource to others; identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels
• Leads projects of limited to moderate complex risk and resource requirements; may include participation end-to-end processes or functional programs
• Devise solutions to moderate problems requiring analysis of multiple variables, including consultation with primary stakeholders
• Investigate and advance new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate
• Impact a range of functional programs and operations across own and related teams
• guidelines, standards, policies and results of analysis to inform decision making at senior levels
• Establish familiarity with stakeholder alignment in key projects and activities; may escalate process and subject matter advice to senior levels
• Works independently as the field lead and guides others within area of expertise
• Reports to Appraisal Manager

EXPERIENCE AND / OR EDUCATION

• Undergraduate degree or relevant professional certifications, designations, or equivalent experience required 2+ years of experience in residential insurance appraisals and/or related experience such with a preference for appraisals/inspections
• Experience in valuation of high value homes and specialty/unique features not commonly seen in residential construction is an asset
• Architectural, construction, inspection, appraisal, high value real estate risk management or similar backgrounds are requisite
• CRM/CIP considered an asset
