Job Description

MAJOR DUTIES :

Administrative and technical management of the Controls Engineering Team and projects as assigned by the Director, Engineering.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

Team Leadership & Culture :

  • Plan, organize, direct and control the activities of Controls Engineering Department using specialized knowledge of general engineering principles and knowledge in Controls Software and Hardware Design.
  • Review project schedules on a timely basis to ensure the automation engineering portion of projects are completed on time and take corrective action, coordinating with other departments as required.
  • Assess workload, assign leads to engineering projects and oversee the completion according to specific deadlines and project schedules.
  • Conduct Team lead and direct employee performance evaluations, recommend salary adjustments, and initiate personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges and disciplinary measures for staff reporting to him / her.
  • Encourage and mentor team leads and direct employees to ensure that departmental morale and efficiency are maintained at the highest level. Conduct regular 1 : 1 with leads and direct reports
  • Support employee training by analyzing needs on an annual basis using the training matrix
  • Based on business goals and annual growth, establish resource requirements skills and organizational needs that will sustain adequate capacity and leadership within the department.
  • Coach team members on A3s, RCCAs, cost benefit analysis, process development
  • Lead daily team meetings

Customer Satisfaction :

  • Provide subject matter expertise within agreed-upon timeframes to Sales and Applications in the quotation process.
  • Recommend and execute metrics on customer satisfaction.
  • When called upon to provide subject matter expertise, maintain overall customer satisfaction by anticipating and preventing issues before they become customer concerns and by optimizing the use of resources.
  • Operate with key technical personnel at the customer site to position ATS as a key to their success and to influence subsequent buying decisions.
  • Provide timely customer intelligence to Sales and Business Development.
  • Monitor and report on internal customer satisfaction data to the Director and Relationship Managers.
  • Financial Performance :

  • Deliver on the departmental initiatives prescribed by the Director.
  • Recommend engineering team operating budget to the Director.
  • Report on team project status using the project status tracking system.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of resources within the team.
  • Quality Improvement :

  • Perform SWOT analysis on team performance as required by the Director.
  • Recommend and direct the implementation of best practices and standard designs to improve quality.
  • Technology Development :

  • Assess new technology to meet project requirements as authorized by the Director.
  • Safety :

  • Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety and Environment compliance.
  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS : Education :

    A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology.

    Experience :

    Several years of experience in the design and implementation of complete control systems for industrial automation projects. This includes hands-on experience in programming and trouble-shooting with current PLC hardware, and programming software.
