About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, Chronic Disease Management and Wellness, Primary Health Care, the incumbent will provide expert knowledge and skills on a wide range of issues from advocacy to assessment to case management. As a member of a primary health care (PHC) Diabetic education Centre team, the PHC Dietitian provides a range of PHC services. These services include, but may not be limited to, health promotion, illness prevention, screening, treatment and monitoring of people living with diabetes. Expertise may also be required to support people living with other chronic health problems, community development and advocacy. The incumbent will be required to collaborate with others to increase community capacity as an educator, researcher and clinical practitioner. These services are provided within a holistic, client / family centred care framework.

The incumbent will provide health assessment, interventions and appropriate follow up in accordance with acts, regulations, policies, standards, guidelines, mission and objectives of the Registered Dietitians of Canada, the Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, the Department of Health and Wellness - Province of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following :

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at a recognized university
  • Dietetic internship (a 1 year integrated or post graduate program)
  • Current Membership in Nova Scotia Dietetic Association required
  • Annual continuing education to maintain Nova Scotia license
  • Two years clinical experience preferred
  • 1 year of diabetes related experience required. If no applicants meet the one-year experience required, applicants with less than one year experience may be considered
  • Membership in Dietitians of Canada preferred
  • Current CPR / BLS certification is required
  • Designation as a Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
  • Experience with group education
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with principles of Motivational Interviewing
  • Exhibits creative problem-solving ability; Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines and committees to achieve excellence in patient care
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint), email and internet
  • Ability to work well independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective research and analytical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours

  • Long assignment full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly.
  • Tentative start date of August 26, - 1 year term
  • Shifts include days, and may include evenings and weekends

    32.94 - $43.42 Hourly
