Our East end manufacturing client is seeking a new Controller who reports to the Director of Finance. You perform and oversee a variety of accounting activities in accordance with accounting standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure that it complies with all relevant reporting requirements.
Responsibilities & Duties :
(Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following)
Financial Analysis :
- Review & consolidate AP / AR cash forecasts on a weekly basis
- Review sales order changes and reconcile on a weekly basis to backlog reports
- Perform analysis on costs and revenues of projects
- Full variance reporting, analysis and planning
- Intercompany payments and account reconciliations
- Work with project managers to review & report actual and forecasted costs, revenue, billings, margins and investigate project issues as they arise
- Responsible for producing internal management reports
- Respond to data requests using various databases
Inventory and System Controls :
Monitoring accuracy of inventory flow in ERP systemReview and maintain obsolescence provisions on a quarterly basisDevelop and participate in new system procedures that improve the accuracy of inventory valuations and counts (RMA)Co-ordinate and attend periodic inventory counts as well as an annual count of the company’s assetsMonth-end Close :
Organize, undertake and delegate tasks within month-end close routinesPrepare journal entriesPrepare and review balance sheet account reconciliationsPreparation of year-end audited financial statements and notesPrepare and distribute monthly program-specific information to Project ManagersManagement :
Manage the Intermediate Accountant and Accounting Administrator, ensuring sufficient and appropriate coverage of General Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable functions throughout the yearLiaise and maintain vendor records with 3rd party payment providerBack up as required for AP / AR functionsBack up for Corporate credit card administrationOngoing cross-training between all Accounting Team functionsLead interim and year-end external audit requirementsLead and / or assist with governmental audits as requiredPrepare working sheets for Corporate Tax Return and SRED reportingMonthly Statutory filingsCreate and maintain departmental policies and proceduresAssist with forecasting and budgeting processes :
Liaise with Database Administrator and Operational teams to support and test system enhancements related to reporting efficiency, operational controls, data integrity and table / application maintenanceReporting to U.S. parent companyPrepare Stats Canada reportsOther accounting projects and duties, as requiredParticipate in other functional area initiatives as requestedAdhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations and follow the environmental and quality management systemsExperience :
Minimum of ten years experience, including five years in a similar roleExperience managing a small accounting teamExperience in all aspects of accounting including Cost Accounting, Inventory Control, Inter-company Reconciliations, AR, & APExperience using ERP software, preference for Visual ManufacturingExperience working for a manufacturing companyExperience working with percentage of completion (POC) revenue recognitionExperience working with government contractsEducation / Professional Certification :
Post-Secondary degree or diploma in AccountingAccounting designation; CPASkills :
