Team & Job Overview :
The Value Creation Operating Partner helps EDC customers grow and succeed by providing strategic advice, collaboratively develop and implement value creation plans. This role is part of EDC’s Mid-Market Growth Businesses (“MMGB”) sub team, focused on enhancing the performance and profitability of a select portfolio of high potential mid-market companies.
The successful candidate will use their business development skills, research abilities, and market knowledge, along with a deep understanding of Canadian sector / sub-sector ecosystems and global supply chains, to drive operational and financial improvements that help Canadian businesses reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities :
Value Creation and Strategy Development
- Value Creation Leadership : Develop, co-create, implement, monitor and provide oversight of comprehensive value creation strategies for EDC’s high growth portfolio customers, collaborating closely with their leadership teams to drive operational and financial improvements, including : Operational Improvements : Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of portfolio companies’ operations to reduce costs, boost profitability and improve financial performance.Product or Service Development : Innovate or improve products or services to better meet market demands.Market Expansion : Proactively identify new markets or emerging segments where portfolio companies can expand their presence.
- Innovation and Insights : Transform data and market intelligence into innovative ideas and actionable business opportunities.
- New Investment Opportunities : Collaborate with our deal origination team to evaluate and assess new investment opportunities, participate in due diligence, and provide valuable insights within the assigned portfolio.
- Market Penetration Playbook : Create and implement a new market penetration playbook to guide strategic entry into new markets.
Portfolio Insight
Portfolio Understanding : Work within the assigned portfolio to understand the industry, sector, and business objectives of customers, ensuring alignment with their goals.Portfolio Monitoring : Collaborate effectively with asset owners in monitoring the performance of assigned portfolio companies, identifying areas for growth, cost optimization, and operational excellence, while ensuring alignment with our investment thesis.Research and Market Analysis
Market Intelligence : Keep current on Canadian innovation ecosystems, technologies, and gather market intelligence in specified sectors of expertise to augment and maintain key relevant industry sector strategies.Analytical Techniques : Deploy analytical techniques to data such as qualitative and quantitative market surveys, historical and projected business results, and advise through detailed reports and presentations.Business Development and Networking
Developing Export-Oriented Partnerships : Support the creation of partnerships that help customers expand globally.Leveraging International Opportunities : Identify and leverage opportunities to connect customers with international prospects to foster global business growth.Network Development : Develop and implement strategies to leverage existing networks and build new ones, enhancing business opportunities.Collaboration and Leadership
Team Collaboration : Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, offering your expertise and guidance to support the success of our investments.Project Leadership : Lead projects and collaborate with other multidisciplinary subject matter experts to create and establish sector strategies, developing and sharing intelligence on Canada’s trade ecosystem.Qualifications :
Completed degree in Economics, Engineering, Business Administration, International Business or in a related field.Minimum 7 years’ experience in market research analytics, business strategy development, or related experience.Demonstrated 5 years work-related experience in data-driven insights and strategy development, ideally at either a Big 4 firm or prominent consulting firm, with a track record of growth plan tactical engagements for VC / PE backed mid-market companies.Strong research and analytical skills with a deep understanding of Canadian sector / sub-sector ecosystems and global supply chains.Exceptional knowledge of data analytics and insightsProven ability to develop and implement value creation strategies.Experience in supporting due diligence and asset review processes.Expertise in mid-market segment, with a notable emphasis on advanced manufacturing and technology / IP-heavy companies.Knowledge of private equity-backed company growth thesis.Ability to stay current on industry trends and market dynamics, and advanced knowledge of economic and / or political analysis principles and practices.Excellent proficiency with Power BIExcellent proficiency with Pitchbook, Cap IQ, Ibis Statistics, Preqin, AlphaSenseExcellent collaboration and communication skills.Assets
Bilingual in both official languages (French and English).Experience in or ability to operate in an experimentational / lab / innovation environment where learnings and evidence guide decisions and changes to approach, strategy & tactics.Experience with data visualization software (i.e. Power BI, Tableau) to represent complex data sets communicating key insights to non-expert audiences.Deep expertise in digital research, and presentation tools (GLG insights)Previously held mid-level leadership role inside a high performing global organization.Compensation Details :
Business Development 19 : Salaries typically range from $107,132 to $142,842 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentiveLocation
