The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is currently looking to fill one or more Experienced Police Officer position(s).

Eligible applicants for the Experienced Officer posting must :

• Be a current sworn police officer with a minimum of 2 years of policing experience with a Canadian federal provincial municipal or First Nations police service (
• Basic police training time may be included in the 2-year experience calculation) or a former police officer who has been separated from their police service or agency for less than 2 years.
• Have a minimum of Alberta Grade 12 or equivalent education (certificate required).
• Have Proof of their Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Must submit a drivers abstract dated within six months of application with no more than five (5) demerit points.
• Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (proof of pardon required) nor have any criminal charges before the courts.
• Have an exemplary record of service and performance history.
• Special Constables and members of a police agency outside Canada are not eligible to enter the Experienced Officer Training Program.

Experienced Police Officer applicants will participate in the complete recruiting process and meet the standards set out by the Alberta Police Selection and Employment Manual and provincial guidelines for recruiting.

COMPENSATION

Successful Experienced Officer applicants hired by the LPS may receive :

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

All components of the selection process will be administered scored evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner. The duration of the process can take up to six months.

Complete ALL necessary forms : Hearing & Vision test Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (APREP) / Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) Medical Form etc. and save them.

APREP tests will be booked through the recruiting officer after reviewing the application. Email to book a testing date.

After the application package is reviewed by the recruiting officer competitive applicants will be contacted for a Personal Disclosure interview.

Behavioral Descriptive Interview

Integrity (truth verification Polygraph) and Psychometric testing (Psychological interview) will be scheduled.

Security Clearance Check will be conducted.

Background check will be conducted.

Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.

PLEASE NOTE : Some costs incidental to the application process may be incurred by the applicant. For example costs associated to obtain a drivers abstract class 5 License hearing and vision tests etc.

TRAINING

Successful applicants will be eligible to complete an accelerated training program that is approximately 5 weeks in length.

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire) criminal and police records check reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

Facility Dogs

As a prospective employee it is important for you to know that LPS has two facility dogs in the workplace. LPS facility dogs are here to support our employees in positive constructive manner. Further LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victims and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our addition we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.

Work Location
