The University of Toronto Scarborough, through the department of Retail & Conference Services, provides a wide variety of visitor, conference, and meeting related special event services and summer accommodation to external users, especially during the period May to September. The revenue generation for the various services contributes to the support of the academic mission of the University.

Your opportunity :

Under the general direction of the Manager, Conference & Events, the incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of camp activities to support the efficient and effective delivery of the continuum of camp programming and staffing (casual camp counsellors) to ensure effective and consistent delivery of programs as well as the annual evaluation of the programming. You will gather information and data on an annual basis to support the camp programming evaluation by the Manager. The incumbent will provide excellent customer service and ensure an inclusive and safe environment for the camp counsellors and camp participants. The Coordinator, Camps will participate in the recruiting, hiring and training of camp counsellors within the guidelines of the standards of University policies and collective agreements and will be responsible for reviewing, editing and updating the camp program marketing and promotion materials.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Acting as the first point of contact for general enquiries
  • Coordinating the schedule for program and event calendars
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and / or programming
  • Liaising with clients and vendors to resolve minor complaints and address issues
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Providing some care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harm
  • Directing the activities of casual staff
  • Directing the work of volunteers in defined activities

Essential Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in administering and coordinating programs for children / youth and student services, such as camp programming.
  • Must have strong computer skills and experience working with MS Word and Excel and e-mail software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently and enthusiasm for mentoring students.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problem-solving skills and commitment to the department’s mission and values.
  • Uses tact and efficiency in dealing with students, internal and external clients and members of the university community, alumni and the general public.

  • Assets(Nonessential) :

  • Experience working in a day camp or other child / youth oriented, customer service environment is an asset.
  • Experience in a supervisory role is an asset.
