Overview

Kootenay River Secondary and Wildflower School (Creston) have a vacancy for a 1.0 FTE Continuing Inclusion Support Teacher to join the high functioning team. School District 8 – Kootenay Lake emphasizes inclusive education and universal design for learning to support all students.

Responsibilities

The Inclusion Support Teacher (IST) provides in-class and targeted supports to accommodate students with varied learning needs. Primary responsibilities include :

• Support implementation of universal in-class strategies and universal design for learning (UDL) to ensure universal supports and access points for all students.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers and the school-based resource team to determine best ways to provide targeted supports to small groups and individual students.
• Assist with understanding and implementing competency-based goals and objectives within the framework of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in an inclusive environment.
• In elementary settings (K-3), provide support to develop early literacy skills, including Early Learning Profile (ELP) and literacy strategies for emergent readers and writers, and support social-emotional learning (SEL).
