Overview
Kootenay River Secondary and Wildflower School (Creston) have a vacancy for a 1.0 FTE Continuing Inclusion Support Teacher to join the high functioning team. School District 8 – Kootenay Lake emphasizes inclusive education and universal design for learning to support all students.
Responsibilities
The Inclusion Support Teacher (IST) provides in-class and targeted supports to accommodate students with varied learning needs. Primary responsibilities include :
- Support implementation of universal in-class strategies and universal design for learning (UDL) to ensure universal supports and access points for all students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and the school-based resource team to determine best ways to provide targeted supports to small groups and individual students.
- Assist with understanding and implementing competency-based goals and objectives within the framework of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in an inclusive environment.
- In elementary settings (K-3), provide support to develop early literacy skills, including Early Learning Profile (ELP) and literacy strategies for emergent readers and writers, and support social-emotional learning (SEL).
Qualifications
Necessary Qualifications
Must possess valid BC certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB).Masters’ Degree or Diploma in Special Education / Inclusive Education.Bachelor’s Degree in Education (or K-12).Successful teaching experience of at least 5 years at the Elementary or Secondary level (ideally at both).Successful completion of two university Level B assessment courses with the ability to administer Level B assessments.Knowledge of positive behaviour intervention and support (PBIS) and willingness to support culturally aligned connection and regulation systems.Experience creating extensive, competency-based individualized education plans (CB-IEPs) and district files for students with Ministry designations, in collaboration with students, parents, and school / district staff.Demonstrated knowledge and skill in trauma-informed strategies to assist classroom teachers.Strong communication skills with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and other agencies.Experience developing inclusive supports for students with complex developmental needs and collaborating with colleagues, families, and agencies.Experience with technology, software platforms, learning apps, and assistive technologies.Desired Qualifications
Training and experience with augmentative technology, medical supports, and personal care; understanding of accessible environments.Experience administering Level B assessments and working with School-Based Teams.Additional Information
