Job Description

Regina Urgent Care Center (UCC) is an important addition to healthcare services for residents in Regina and the surrounding area. The UCC is designed to provide patients timely access to health care for urgent but non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries that need care as soon as possible. It will then connect patients to community services within health networks, such as home care, crisis intervention and other avenues of primary health care, if needed. UCC is staffed with a multidisciplinary care team, including mental health professionals, to provide patients better access to urgent medical attention for a variety of needs.

Position Profile :

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is seeking Emergency Medicine (ER) physicians to join the team at the newly established Urgent Care Centre (UCC) in Regina, Saskatchewan. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a vital new healthcare service in the community and help shape a dynamic, patient-centered model of care.

To qualify for ER-rate remuneration, ER physicians will be required to provide services at both the Regina ERs and the Regina UCC. Physicians will provide same-day access to high-quality care for all ages of patients with non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, as well as individuals requiring urgent mental health and addiction support. Responsibilities include triage, comprehensive assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests (lab and imaging), treatment, and timely referral to appropriate follow-up services. Additionally, ER physicians will work within a dedicated Mental Health and Addictions Services area, offering confidential and discreet services, support patient referrals and connect patients to appropriate follow-up services.

Working in collaboration with a team of SHA-affiliated care providers, physician leadership, and management teams, ER physicians will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the UCC. Role of the ER physicians is crucial in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of the UCC, contributing to the overall strategic goals of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and continuously improving patient care and service delivery.

The UCC in Regina also see clients who experience disproportionate health disparity, complex chronic medical and social health concerns and barriers to access.

The SHA is dedicated to learning and is a partner in the growing educational needs of medical students and residents from the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. The University of Saskatchewan is a research-intensive institution with 22,000 students and 7,000 faculty and staff, and a strong reputation for innovation and excellence. The College of Medicine has an intake of 100 students per year with a commensurate number of positions for residency training. The Department of Family Medicine has distributed training sites in Saskatoon and Regina ().

Job Qualifications

The successful applicant will :

• The candidate will be EM certified with CCFP-EM, ABEM or FRCPC–EM and be eligible for regular licensure from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS).
• have current medical liability insurance coverage
• demonstrate strong, clear communication skills including written, auditory, and verbal
• have greater than one year of experience in any of Urgent Care, Emergency Room or high volume Primary Health Care Clinic setting, with experience and expertise providing emergency care to the full range of patient demographics.
• hold an FTE in the ER department in Regina, in good standing.
• be certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or attain the certifications within 6 months of their start date
• be a team player, be able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff, management, and function well in a high-volume clinical environment with a commitment to provision of high-quality patient and family centered care.

Preferred Qualifications :

In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.

The successful applicant has the potential to participate in the undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education programs of the Department of Family Medicine in the Regina Area and may be appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
