Position Overview We have a full-time opportunity available within our Parks Department for a Supervisor, Park Ranger Service. This is supervisory, administrative, regulatory and public engagement work related to ensuring park use adheres to bylaws and regulations for the protection of natural areas and the promotion of public safety. The incumbent supervises, directs and participates in the day-to-day operations of the park rangers team; develops and implements operational plans, policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective park ranger services; oversees and ensures for public compliance with applicable regulations and bylaws and protocols; oversees and ensures for the provision of public education and engagement to support positive relationships with parks visitors, public safety and environmental protection; conducts regular patrols, and investigates and processes complaints and escalated issues concerning bylaw infractions including evidence gathering and building case files through to attending adjudications and other legal processes; ensure compliance with the screening officer policy, coordinates operational response to emergencies and incidents; serves as liaison with municipal departments and external agencies on matters related to the work; drafts and recommends amendments to budgets, fees, bylaws, policies and procedures; prepares reports, records and correspondence related to the work. The work involves considerable public contact and the requirement to exercise considerable independent judgement, action, tact and diplomacy within established policies, regulations and guidelines.
The successful candidate will possess :
Qualifications A Diploma in natural resource management, environmental science, park administration or other relevant field, supplemented by training in regulatory enforcement and emergency response, plus considerable experience in regulatory enforcement, including some leadership or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience preferred. Level 1 First Aid Certification including CPR certification, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence are required.
Details Salary : Hours of Work : 40-hour work week (any five (5) days of the seven (7) days per week with two (2) consecutive days off.
