Opportunity
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon‑led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase of the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
The Sr. Cost Controller will provide cost control support to ongoing projects and support the company’s estimating and construction teams to ensure the project control system is properly implemented and utilized.
What you'll do
Overall responsibility for compliance of assigned projects with project controls standards.Assist in project set‑up, converting bids into baseline budgets, reconciling gaps.Participate in proposal and estimating efforts to ensure continuity between project estimates and baselines.Liaise with external groups (Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Construction, etc.) to gain inputs into Project Controls reports.Create and maintain project status update reports, forecast reports, and dashboards; ensure timely issuance to internal and external stakeholders.Create and maintain customized reports or dashboards to adapt to evolving risks and project needs.Develop and maintain resource plans, ensuring cost and schedule alignment.Conduct variance analysis to understand trends and baseline deviations; provide variance narratives and propose corrective actions.Prepare Earned Value Management KPIs to assess project performance.Assist in creating and maintaining tools and templates that ensure compliance with Project Controls plans and contract requirements.Maintain a change log to track all internal and external changes and monitor progress.Review contract to ensure compliance with contract reporting, change management, and other Project Controls requirements.Establish and maintain the CBS and control accounts in alignment with baseline budgets; connect SAP with CPM for alignment of financial reporting.Manage chart of accounts library to ensure consistency and alignment with established budgets; ensure WBS and CBS alignment.Monitor forecasts to ensure timely closure of closed cost accounts and update forecasts accurately based on performance KPIs and project trends.Liaise with Finance & Accounting teams to support project‑level financial forecasting and month‑end reporting.Liaise with Procurement, Finance & Accounting teams to ensure appropriate subcontractor and purchase‑order management, accurate incurred cost reporting via timely accruals and invoicing.Prepare and update project cash‑flow forecasts in alignment with the project schedule.What you bring to the team
5+ years of related cost control experience.Post‑secondary degree in Quantitative, Engineering or Construction Management.Strong team collaboration skills.Demonstrated analytical and adaptive thinking.Detail‑oriented approach focused on quality.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Agility and flexibility in a dynamic environment.Innovative problem‑solving skills.Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.Results‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.Commitment to working in a team environment.Diversity & Inclusion
