Description

The Commercial Property Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role ensures accurate property-level financials, provides timely reporting to management, supports property operations, and maintains compliance with leases, company policies, and accounting standards.

In this role, you will:

• Property Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned commercial properties.
  • Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and reconciliations.
  • Complete monthly variance analyses and provide explanations to property and asset management teams.

  Rent & Lease Administration

  • Prepare CAM (Common Area Maintenance) schedule
  • Perform annual CAM and operating expense reconciliations and prepare tenant adjustment invoices.
  • Ensure compliance with lease terms, including base rent, escalations, abatements, tenant improvements, and reimbursements.

  Capital & Operational Tracking

  • Track capital expenditures (CapEx), tenant improvement allowances, and leasing commissions.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.

  Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with property managers, leasing teams, and asset managers to support operational needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 2–5+ years of property accounting experience; commercial real estate strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of lease types (NNN, gross, modified) and CAM reconciliation.
• Proficiency with real estate accounting software (Yardi)
• Strong Excel skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
