Position Summary
Job Type : Part-time, temporary February to June 2026
Hours of Work : 4 hrs. / day, Monday Friday, between 11 : 00 am to 5 : 30 pm
Reporting to : Director of Education
Department : Education
The teacher supports all learners who come to Ahms Tah Ow, Tlaamin Nations Learning Centre; these include both high school and adult learners working on completing their (Adult) Dogwood Diploma or upgrading courses.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the learning and wellbeing of all who seek academic support at Ahms Tah Ow.
- Maintains awareness of each learners progress through their courses
- Works collaboratively with the team supporting each learner (qSD teacher, TN Post Secondary Coordinator, TN Student Success and Wellness Caseworker, VIU, etc.)
- Engages patiently and gently with learners who are having a hard day
- Communicates any issues to Director or designate immediately
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tlaamin policies, standards, practices, and procedures as directed by the Director of Education or their designate
- Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to learners, families, partners, and general matters of the Nation
- Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications
Training, Education, Experience
BC (or other jurisdiction) teaching qualificationsExperienced tutors are welcome to apply.Experience teaching and / or supporting high school mathematics and English coursesExperience working with Indigenous students or within an Indigenous communityExperience providing social and emotional support to youth and / or adults would be an assetExperience applying principles of trauma informed practiceAcceptable recent Criminal Record Vulnerable SectorKnowledge, Skills, Abilities
Proven ability to form trusting relationships with youth and adultsProven ability to motivate othersProven ability to use judgement, tact, and discretion when providing information, including the ability to maintain levels of strict confidentialityExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong organizational and time management skillsWorking Conditions
Work is performed at Ahms Tah Ow Learning Centre in tiosm (the Tlaamin community). Approximately 4 hours daily, between 11 : 00 am-5 : 30 pm, Monday through Friday. Precise hours to be determined.
