Payroll Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Toronto, Ontario, as part of a dynamic and growing service industry organization. In this contract to permanent position, you will play a key role in accurately processing employee payroll while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. This opportunity allows you to collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to process improvements within a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Process employee payroll with precision, including verifying hours, deductions, bonuses, and adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations, maintaining adherence to tax and labour laws.
• Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies in a meticulous and timely manner.
• Update and maintain employee records in payroll systems, following company guidelines.
• Generate and submit accurate payroll reports for management and accounting purposes.
• Collaborate with HR, accounting, and other departments to ensure seamless payroll operations.
• Identify areas for improvement within payroll processes and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency.
• Stay informed about industry trends and regulatory updates to ensure payroll practices remain current.
• Assist in audits and provide necessary documentation to support compliance initiatives.

• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

• At least 2–3 years of experience in payroll processing, with multi-province payroll experience considered an asset.

• Proficiency in payroll software such as ADP Workforce Now.

• Strong knowledge of payroll functions, benefit administration, and tax accounting.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software systems.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to collaborate effectively across teams.

• Proven organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Analytical problem-solving capabilities to address payroll discrepancies and improve processes.
