The Schulich School of Education is one of six prestigious Schulich Schools that have been established in Canadian universities through the generous benefaction of Dr. Seymour Schulich. Teacher education in the North Bay area has enjoyed a rich history stretching back 115 years, beginning as the North Bay Normal School (1909), then becoming the North Bay Teachers’ College (1953), a Faculty of Education within Nipissing University (1973), and finally the Schulich School of Education (2010). The Schulich School of Education seeks an innovative faculty member who can leverage our existing technological infrastructure and instructional expertise to meet a growing demand for educators skilled in STEM education, computer studies and technology. By expanding our technology-focused faculty, our goal is to position our graduates to excel in a teaching landscape where STEM and emerging technology are essential.

The successful candidate will possess:

• An awareness of the cross-curricular implications of STEM Education and Computer Studies;
• A demonstrated ability to incorporate inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, scientific experimentation process, engineering design process, and/or experiential learning; and
• A strong understanding of instructional design principles for science and technology, coding and programming languages, analytics, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and/or robotics.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the following areas:

• Science education in one or more of the following areas: biology, chemistry, physics, or general science, emphasizing inquiry-based and interdisciplinary approaches;
• Computer studies in one or more of the following areas: the integration of digital literacy, artificial intelligence (AI), or robotics;
• Curriculum development and assessment practices that promote scientific thinking, computational skills, and ethical engagement with emerging technologies; and
• Preparing future educators to teach science and computer studies confidently in diverse, digitally connected classrooms where innovation and equity are prioritized.

Certification as a registered teacher with their respective licensing authority or regulatory body (e.g., Ontario College of Teachers) is an asset.

Candidate qualifications include:

• Completion of a Ph.D. in Education or related discipline. For an assistant professor appointment, candidates close to completing a Ph.D. (i.e., ABD) will be considered.
• A demonstrated exemplary record of teaching at the elementary and/or secondary level(s) is required.
• For assistant professor level applicants, potential to establish an active and productive research and scholarly profile is critical.
• For associate professor level applicants, an already established research record and scholarly profile are expected.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily at the undergraduate level within the Bachelor of Education program and may also have opportunities for graduate level teaching and supervision within our Master of Education and Ph.D. (Educational Sustainability) programs. The candidate will also be expected to engage in service activities within the Schulich School of Education; the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies; and the broader university community.

Our campus is located at 100 College Dr, North Bay, ON P1B 8L7. The annual salary for this role will range from $85,372 to $130,606 (Assistant) or $110,307 to $162,102 (Associate), depending on level of experience, plus employee benefits and pension plan as per the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) .
