Formica Corporation is a maker of world-famous laminate products and decorative surfacing materials. We put our artistic signature on a remarkable variety of commercial and residential interior surfaces. We are seeking a Plant Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of the St-Jean manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provide vision and direction to all plant staff and hourly employees through personal contact, effective programs and policies and mentoring of key staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee all plant activities through effective planning and delegation to the plant staff (departmental managers) to ensure manufacturing objectives are met.
  • Continue to develop the lean manufacturing program of the site.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets including, cost improvement goals.
  • Implement effective systems to control capital, operating and maintenance expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines on employee health and safety, including CNESST compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate guidelines on environmental protection.
  • Drive continuous improvements in all processes and all departments.
  • Develop talent pool sufficient to meet current and planned needs of the facilities through effective recruiting, training and discipline of employees.
  • Accountable in the delivery of key performance of the St-Jean manufacturing facility with a distinctive sustainable approach.

Requirements include :

  • Excellent knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma processes.
  • Ability to drive a strong culture through leadership, staff motivation and strength of interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to identify problems within the facility, develop solutions, execute and follow through to a successful conclusion.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and a track record of functioning successfully in a collegial, open, integrated management team are essential.
  • Outstanding communication skills and a personal style that will facilitate open dialogue and engagement with both external and internal constituencies is a requirement.
  • A proper balance of strategic perspective and attention to detail is important to success in this role.
  • A leader who will have instant credibility and is able to motivate, and retain well-qualified individuals of diverse talents, interests, and cultural backgrounds. Must be fair but firm.
  • Ability to communicate, energize, and motivate people in a variety of business functions. Must be able to exude excitement about the plant’s products, prospects, and have a passion for “getting the job done.”
  • A risk taker who has developed processes where none existed, as opposed to having only improved those in place.
  • A goal-oriented professional who provides a sense of direction and perseveres to achieve positive results.
  • Solid interpersonal skills in listening, coaching, communicating with integrity, and showing appreciation. A leader who recognizes the power of employee involvement, develops the ideas and potential of others, and is sensitive to the needs of people.
  • Experience managing a union facility with demonstrated ability to develop strong working relationships.
  • Bilingual – French / English
  • Preferably an undergraduate degree in Engineering.
