Our large resources client is executing a complex, multi-year capital program at one of its mining sites, consisting of multiple construction projects delivered concurrently and sequentially. The program includes large-scale infrastructure, facilities, and processing assets requiring rigorous governance, assurance, and integration across contractors and delivery partners.

We are seeking a Quality Director to provide program-level leadership for all quality and risk management activities across this construction portfolio. This is a senior leadership role responsible for setting strategy, establishing governance, and ensuring consistent, disciplined application of quality and risk management practices across the entire capital program.

The Quality Director will operate as a key member of the program leadership team, influencing executive stakeholders, interfacing with owner representatives, and providing oversight across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.

This is a site-based role on rotation , with regular engagement at the mining site and periodic travel to the Vancouver office.

Role Summary

The Quality Director is accountable for end-to-end quality and risk management across the full capital program, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and best-in-class industry practices. The role goes beyond compliance and assurance—this leader will actively shape program outcomes by embedding quality and risk thinking into planning, decision-making, and execution.

This position requires deep experience overseeing multiple construction projects simultaneously , managing interfaces between delivery partners, and providing executive-level insight into program risk, quality performance, and systemic issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for all quality and risk management activities across the capital program.
  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve a program-wide Quality Management Plan (QMP) aligned with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and oversee the program’s quality governance framework , ensuring consistency across all projects and contractors.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the program risk management framework , including integrated risk registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure quality and risk considerations are embedded into program planning, execution, and decision-making processes.
  • Oversee quality performance across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on quality metrics, emerging risks, trends, and systemic issues.
  • Direct internal and external audits, surveillance activities, and assurance reviews across the program.
  • Oversee supplier and contractor quality management, including SQS programs and construction quality plans.
  • Ensure non-conformances, corrective actions, and improvement opportunities are effectively managed and closed out.
  • Champion continuous improvement and integration of lessons learned across all projects within the program.
  • Act as a senior interface with internal stakeholders, engineering partners, contractors, and third-party reviewers.
  • Lead and mentor quality and risk professionals across the program, including resource planning and capability development.
  • Drive a strong quality- and risk-focused culture across the entire program organization.
  • Serve as a visible safety leader, reinforcing safety and environmental expectations across all activities.
  • Support program governance forums, executive reviews, and decision-making processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 20+ years of experience in quality management within large industrial construction programs or major mining projects .
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing quality and risk management across multiple concurrent construction projects within a single capital program.
  • Degree in Engineering , Business Administration , or a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience working within owner organizations or in senior program leadership roles.
  • Expert-level understanding of large-scale construction delivery models and how to integrate quality and risk management across them.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing program-level QMPs and risk management frameworks.
  • Strong background in audit leadership, contractor oversight, and governance-based assurance.
  • Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence senior leadership and external partners.
  • Formal training or certification in ISO 9001 , ISO 31000 , or equivalent quality and risk standards is strongly preferred.
  • High digital fluency, including the ability to leverage systems and tools to enhance program visibility and performance.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and SharePoint platforms.
