Position Overview
PRT is recruiting a full‑time Production Manager to oversee the Grow Team and seedling production at PRT Quesnel in Quesnel, BC. The Production Manager is a key member of the local management team, reporting directly to the Nursery Manager and playing a pivotal role in continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Crop Culture Management
- Execute all phases of the crop production plan, ensuring precise water management, fertilization, and cultural programs as defined in Crop Prescriptions.
- Operate and program the Argus Environmental Control System, managing irrigation, climate controls, and alarm monitoring.
- Conduct detailed crop monitoring, including morphological measurements, tissue nutrient analyses, and regular inspections for insects and disease, implementing control methods in line with the company‑directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
- Maintain and troubleshoot Argus monitoring equipment and software, performing minor repairs and modifications as needed.
- Assist with crop and growing material inventories and ensure accurate record‑keeping using computerized systems.
Team Leadership, Training & Collaboration
Lead, train, coach, and mentor the growing team, promoting collaboration and teamwork at all levels.Supervise seasonal irrigation employees and provide instruction to nursery workers on safe and efficient practices for weeding, quality control, and general cultural activities.Manage daily resource allocation and shift scheduling to maximize efficiency and meet production targets.Set team targets and evaluate goal attainment.Safety, Quality & Reporting
Maintain the highest standards of workplace safety, ensuring strict adherence to all Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and regulations.Act as a customer quality advocate, ensuring all crops meet quality parameters.Provide regular feedback and growing program reports to the Nursery Manager.Qualifications
Education : Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Forestry, or a related field.Experience : Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a commercial nursery or agricultural production environment, with proven supervisory or management experience.Crop Management : Hands‑on knowledge of conifer plant physiology, nutrient management, soil / substrate analysis, pest / disease identification, and advanced cultural techniques.IPM Proficiency : Demonstrated ability to execute a comprehensive IPM program.Environmental Control : Expertise in operating, programming, and troubleshooting computerized environmental control systems (e.g., Argus) for climate, irrigation, and alarm management.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Preferred : Pesticide applicator certificate, ability to work independently, ability to climb, stand, and stoop for extended periods, intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), greenhouse monitoring software and hardware experience (preferably Argus).Salary Information
Compensation : $75,000 – $90,000 plus 10% bonus, based on experience and preferred qualifications.
