OverviewOur client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage full-cycle payroll operations and ensurepliance with all applicable regulations and agreements. This role involves processing payroll accurately and on time, maintaining confidential employee records, and supporting related accounting functions.
Your New Role
- Administer bi-weekly and monthly payroll for salaried and hourly employees, ensuring accuracy andpliance with statutory requirements and internal policies.
- Validate and process new hire data, terminations, adjustments, and special payments such as retroactive pay and wage changes.
- Import and review timecard data within the payroll system; address discrepancies as needed.
- Calculate and process deductions including benefits, pension, RRSP, union dues, and garnishments.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll-related journal entries and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
- Generate and distribute pay statements and statutory forms (e.g., T4s, T4As) within required timelines.
- Respond to inquiries from employees, unions, and external agencies regarding payroll matters.
- Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records in accordance with retention policies.
- Assist with system upgrades, process improvements, and provide training or backup support to team members.
- Produce ad hoc reports and participate in departmental projects as required.
What you'll need to succeed
- High school diploma plus Payrollpliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience usingputerized systems; exposure to ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle, JDE) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, collective agreements, and benefit administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to work with spreadsheets and databases.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strongmunication skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
