Outdoor Education Coordinator

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Outdoor Educator to join our team. This individual will be responsible for developing and delivering educational programs for students, including a Grade 3 curriculum focused on soil and a Grade 5 curriculum centered around energy. In addition to educational programming, the Outdoor Educator will facilitate school group visits, lead confirmation retreats, and assist with basic maintenance of the property.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Program Development and Delivery :
  • Design and implement an engaging Grade 3 program focused on soil, including topics such as soil composition, the importance of soil in ecosystems, and hands-on activities.
  • Develop and lead a Grade 5 program about energy, covering various energy sources, their impact on the environment, and interactive experiments.
  • Adapt programs to meet the needs of different school groups, ensuring alignment with educational standards and learning objectives.
  • School Group Coordination :
  • Plan and facilitate outdoor education experiences for visiting school groups, including guided nature walks, ecological activities, and team-building exercises.
  • Collaborate with teachers and school administrators to customize programs that align with classroom curricula.
  • Retreat Leadership :
  • Organize and lead confirmation retreats, providing spiritual guidance, outdoor activities, and reflection time for participants.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all retreat attendees.
  • Property Maintenance :
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks on the property, including trail upkeep, garden care, and maintaining outdoor education equipment.
  • Monitor and ensure the safety of all facilities used during educational programs and retreats.
  • Team Collaboration :
  • Work closely with other staff members to ensure seamless program delivery and a positive experience for all participants.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programs.
  • Health and Safety :
  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of students, retreat participants, and staff.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies and provide first aid if necessary.

Qualifications :

  • Excellent communication and group management skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to property maintenance and outdoor activities.
  • A passion for nature, environmental stewardship, and working with children and youth.
  • Working Conditions :

  • The position involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials required for educational programs and maintenance tasks.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate school group schedules and retreat activities.

    Contract length : 4-12 months

    Pay : $16.55 per hour

    Expected hours : 35 per week
