Overview
CST Coal is looking for Certified Heavy Duty Mechanics to perform maintenance and repairs on mobile and ancillary equipment in an open‑pit mining facility.
Responsibilities
- Perform planned and breakdown maintenance, repairs, and installations on mobile and ancillary equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical / electrical problems while staying within planned time frames and maintaining equipment integrity.
- Enter reports on maintenance, repairs, and diagnoses into the maintenance database before the end of each shift with sufficient detail.
- Keep work areas clean and free of safety hazards continuously.
- Participate constructively in safety meetings and incident investigations.
- Handle equipment such as shovels (hydraulic / electric), haul trucks, dozers, graders, loaders, and fuel trucks.
Education Requirements
Canadian interprovincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification or a Provincial Certificate of Qualification as heavy‑duty mechanic, or eligibility to challenge the Canadian Journeyman examination.Experience
Recent and previous mining experience.Maintenance and repair experience on equipment including P&H 2800, Hitachi EX3600 and EX5500 shovels, Atlas Copco drills, Komatsu 830E's, CAT D11's, D10's, 777's or similar large open‑pit mining equipment.Wages and Benefits
Hourly wage : $52.13 per hour with an additional $1.10 per hour night shift premium.7‑day on / 7‑day off 12‑hour day / night rotation; no camp available—resident in Grande Cache required.Monthly allowances : $600 Trades Allowance (bi‑weekly taxable), $500 Living Allowance (bi‑weekly taxable), $500 yearly Fitness Allowance.Annual allowances : $600 per year boot / clothing allowance, $1,500 per year tool allowance.Health benefits effective 1st of the month following start date.Union membership with UMWA required with one‑time initiation fee and monthly dues.8% RSP match program.Work Environment
The incumbent works outdoors 90% of the time at the CST Coal Mine Site facility on a 7‑day on, 7‑day off shift rotation. Overtime and standby duties may be required. Exposure to loud noise, moving equipment, and large machinery is common. Candidates must comply with pre‑ and post‑employment drug and alcohol testing. Personal protective equipment includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, hearing protection, respiratory protection, protective clothing, and gloves.
