Technical Accounting Consultant – Securitization & Derivatives

About the Role

Our client (Financial Services) is seeking a hands-on Technical Accounting Consultant to lead the accounting analysis, documentation, and implementation for structured finance transactions. The mandate covers securitizations, derivatives, hedge accounting, and the design/assessment of Special Purpose Entities (SPEs/SPVs). You will partner with Treasury, Capital Markets, Legal, Risk, and External Audit to deliver the end-to-end accounting workstream—from scoping and technical memos to journal entries, disclosures, and control readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead accounting assessment and treatment for securitization (asset segregation, eligibility, overcollateralization, substitution).
• Provide accounting treatment and setting up of SPEs under IFRS 9.
• Draft/own technical accounting position papers and whitepapers supporting management judgments and auditor review.
• Design and validate accounting entries for issuance, periodic remittances, excess spread, fees, amortization, and unwind.
• Develop statutory and management disclosures
• Derivatives & Hedge Accounting
• Structure and document fair value and cash flow hedges for interest rate and cross-currency exposures (IFRS 9).
• Draft hedge designations, hedge effectiveness methodology, prospective/retrospective assessments, and de-designations.
• Coordinate with Treasury and Valuation teams on derivative measurement, and P& L impacts

What You’ll Bring

• Designation: CPA or international equivalent required.
• Experience: 7–12+ years in technical accounting within banking/financial services, Big 4 Capital Markets advisory, or in-house Treasury/Accounting Policy.
• Standards Expertise: Deep working knowledge of IFRS 9, IFRS 10, IFRS 7, IFRS 13, IAS 32.
• Domain Skills: Hands-on with covered bonds and/or securitization, derivatives, hedge accounting, and SPE consolidation.
• Tools: Advanced Excel; exposure to Treasury Management Systems and major ERPs (D365, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) an asset.
• Soft Skills: Strong technical memo writing, cross-functional partnering, and auditor-facing communication.
• Bonus: Prior experience with mortgages, OSFI/CMHC program guidelines.
