Financial Controller

A well-established and expanding group of companies based in Pickering is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their finance team on a permanent basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on and commercially focused finance professional to take full ownership of the finance function across a growing group. Offering a competitive package with salary up to £70,000 (inclusive of £6000 car allowance) and clear scope to add value, this role would suit someone who is practice-trained and looking for their second or third move in industry - ready to step into a senior finance role and make a real impact.
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will:

• Oversee all finance operations across the group, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and effective cashflow management.
• Lead and develop a small finance and systems team—providing hands-on support where needed while driving best practice and process improvement.
• Produce monthly management accounts with insightful analysis and commentary for the Board and Senior Leadership Team.
• Deliver budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis to support commercial decision-making and business performance.
• Oversee payroll, VAT, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
• Partner with Directors and operational managers to provide commercial insight around costs, margins, and productivity.
• Review and enhance financial systems and processes to improve reporting capability and support business growth.
• Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and coordinate the annual audit with external auditors.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be ACA or ACCA qualified, practice-trained, with proven success in a Finance Manager or Financial Controller role.
• Have a strong technical background with hands-on experience in management accounting, costing, and financial reporting.
• Be highly proficient in Excel and experienced with systems such as Sage, Xero, or SAP.
• Be confident working across multiple sites, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Be commercially astute, proactive, and adaptable—able to balance day-to-day finance operations with strategic leadership responsibilities.

This position is based in Pickering, North Yorkshire, and is easily commutable from Malton, York, Scarborough, Driffield, Pocklington, and Thirsk.
