As a Recreation Therapist for our Creative Arts program, you will be an integral part of a collaborative, inter-disciplinary team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. What you’ll be doing :
- Assume a therapeutic role in the motivation, counselling, supervision and instruction of patients in treatment interventions
- Facilitate creative art group programming for a variety of different patient populations
- Provide the opportunity for leisure skill development in a safe context to experience new behaviours
- Document patient treatment and ongoing progress, according to Recreation Therapy, program and hospital standards
- Support individual skill development relating to community leisure resources, which promote integration
- Develop, implement and evaluate evidence-based programs based on patient needs and the best available research
- Conduct ongoing assessment of group readiness and participation with respect to mood, social interaction, functional level, attitude, suicide risk, and behaviours affecting the recovery process
- Identify recreation and leisure opportunities in the community and provide resources as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe and inspirational creative arts studio
- Order and maintain supplies according to hospital budget
- Supervise and support volunteers and students to enhance program and the patient’s experience
- Consult with other professionals and the Homewood community on use of the arts to promote health and well-being
What we’re looking for :
Bachelor’s Degree; Recreation TherapyExperience working with mental health and addictions populationsExperience with visual arts, clay, bisque, ceramic glazes and other art mediaRegistration (R / TRO) OR Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required within 1 year of hireAwareness and acknowledgement of the value of using measurement-based care when supporting patients / clients to help guide clinical decision making; experience an assetAbility to work effectively independently and within a team environmentExcellent assessment, organization and communication skillsEngaging, collaborative and creative, astute to clients' needs with the ability to adapt and be flexibleProficient in Microsoft OfficeCPR Certification is requiredCommitment to working within Homewood’s Health and Safety StandardsAs part of our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community from COVID-19, subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Health Centre requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
