You will be the technical reference for detailed engineering and constructability in the field of dam construction, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.
Your future role on our team… BBA is looking for a Dam Safety Engineer to be situated in either its Vancouver, BC or Trail, BC office. You will be the technical reference for detailed engineering and constructability in the field of dam construction, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee dam safety related geotechnical and multidisciplinary evaluations of dams, monitoring and testing programs, and analysis of results
- Oversee reporting including Dam Safety Reviews, and Dam Safety Inspections
- Support the development of detailed design engineering and tender packages
- Perform design and stability / deformation and seepage analysis for dams, and other foundations
- Provide construction supervision and oversight
- Plan, tender, and supervise geotechnical investigation programs
- Evaluate geotechnical exploration and test results to interpret and characterize subsurface conditions, and prepare reports and memorandums, including geotechnical baseline reports
- Direct changes to project operations, where necessary, to ensure the safety of dams and of appurtenant facilities in emergency circumstances
- Provide mentorship to junior staff
- Participate in business development activities including : leading proposals, preparing technical papers and attending conferences

Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university with a focus on geotechnical engineering15+ years of relevant professional experience in dam safetyCurrent registration with EGBC (or equivalent) as a professional engineerPrevious involvement with at least three dam safety reviewsCurrent knowledge of the British Columbia Dam Safety Regulation, CDA Dam Safety Guidelines and other international dam safety standardsIn the case of mining dams, current knowledge of the regulations applicable to the Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia and the CDA Dam Safety GuidelinesProfound knowledge in geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics and applicable codes, standards, procedures, safety and other regulatory requirements and guidelinesProfessional engineer designation with EGBC or equivalentSkills in engineering, including advanced slope stability and geotechnical foundation analysis, design of geotechnical structures and soil-structure interaction and relevant modelling softwareExcellent spoken and written English communication skills. Additional languages such as Spanish or French are an assetAbility to travel and perform site work, where requiredTotal Rewards
