OVERVIEW
JOB PURPOSE
The Communications Advisor (Web Editor) is an experienced digital communications professional responsible for creating, delivering, curating and maintaining effective web content (written and multi-media) and presence aligned with corporate strategy, tailored to target audiences which reflects LSO corporate values, brand and voice. The Communications Advisor (Web Editor) develops web content standards, collaborates with IT and works across all divisions to provide expert advice and guidance to client divisions, ensuring high editorial standards and effective information architecture of the organization’s external website(s) and intranet.
Under the direction of the Director, the Communications Advisor plays a key role and is an integral member of the LSO’s web governance committee.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- A university degree or college diploma in Communications, IT, Marketing, Journalism or equivalent
- A minimum of five (5) years progressive experience creating, delivering, curating and maintaining effective written and multimedia digital content and web presence, demonstrating high editorial standards and effective information architecture of external website(s) and intranet properties.
- Experience using Kentico is required
- Familiarity with WordPress, Dreamweaver and other Adobe graphic design software is an asset
- Thorough knowledge of best practices with respect to web content management and organizational communication
- Top-notch plain language and web writing skills – expressive and persuasive in both spoken and written language for individual and / or group situations
- Experience functioning as a go-between to liaise with program-area and IT staff
- Strong design and production skills for developing and implementing a wide variety of multimedia content for digital channels, including web, intranet and social media
- Experienced in web metrics, Google analytics, SME and SEO, with a clear understanding of how they factor into web content strategy
- Expertise in web usability and the ability to balance client- and user-need to make content and concepts engaging and clear to audiences
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Creative Suite and other video and graphic design software
- Experience with project management software and strong PC skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience solving client problems though the implementation of appropriate web solutions
- Experience with, and the ability to explain, the use of common content management systems
- Knowledge of web development workflows, implementation processes and best practices for managing websites and other interactive media
- Familiarity with current user experience practices and processes, and skills to proactively identifying issues and solutions
- Good understanding of the Law Society mandate, services and the principles underlying governance of the legal Profession
- Thorough understanding of AODA-compliance, and other accessibility standards, protocols and best practices including the use of accessibility automated testing tools and manual processes
- Understanding of information architecture, user experience and web design principles
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Client / Customer Service Delivery
Works in consultation with the Director and other key staff, uses advanced knowledge of web, mobile and multimedia communication tactics and strategies to plan and deliver engaging content and help client areas meet their program area objectives within the context of the corporate Strategic Plan.Plans and creates integrated, proactive web communications and multimedia content for the organization and client departments.Creates and executes written and multimedia content for blogs, websites, social media, emails and other digital channels.Works seamlessly with all business units to deliver multimedia content within communications standards and best practices.Monitors web content across all divisions to ensure content adheres to standards and is up to date.Develops effective written and multimedia content, including graphics and video.The Communications Advisor (Web Editor) is responsible for monitoring web traffic and metrics to identify best practices and for the development of a content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term objectives, ensuring website compliance with accessibility standards under AODA.Manages content on the Law Society’s internal and external websites, primarily using Kentico, however familiarity with WordPress, Dreamweaver and other Adobe graphic design software is an asset.Research
Conducts usability research and information architecture tasks, working with outside vendors, as required.Researches priority projects and subjects for internal and external communication in consultation with the Director and client departments.Tracks and evaluates achievement of web communications initiatives and content providing feedback to ERC staff and client departments regarding effectiveness.Monitors and analyzes data and reports on performance of the website; adapts content strategies to increase reach and promote engagement, using multimedia tactics and SEM and SEO techniques.Utilizes analytics to evaluate communications programs and user experience and provides detailed analytic reporting.Keeps up to date with best practices and trends in writing and developing / implementing multimedia content for online and social media platforms.Responsible for the tracking, reporting and analysis of the impact of web communications.Remains aware of new and emerging technologies and their potential application to address business needs.Special Projects and Initiatives
On an ongoing basis, works closely with ERC staff and stakeholder groups throughout the organization, providing input and expertise on web communications strategies and multimedia approaches and tactics.Provides or procures training as required for individuals and groups on web communications techniques.Team Membership
Liaises with IT and other parties around programming, website troubleshooting, website development / editing, testing for accessibility and usability and content creation and design.Delivers advice and expertise on a variety of initiatives to internal staff and client departments to facilitate and support web communications plans and multimedia content aligned with departmental initiatives, and the strategic plan of the organization.Contributes to day-to-day work of the ERC division; updates website and intranet pages, drafts web content and posts to social media, and provides graphic and multimedia support for various content pieces.WORKING ARRANGEMENT
The Law Society has introduced a Distributed Workforce Model to leverage flexibility and agility, and to maximize employee productivity and engagement. Work arrangements will be determined by role and departmental requirements. The working arrangement for this position has been classified as hybrid, where the employee will regularly flex their work location between home and office.
