Team Medicine Assistant

Location: Ottawa, ON

The Team Medicine Assistant is a full-time, permanent position open to Veterinary Assistants, Client Service Representatives, and Technicians. Hours of work are 35-40 hours per week, weekdays, evenings and weekends on rotation. This position reports directly to the Hospital Manager.

Responsibilities

The Team Medicine Assistant works with General Practice Veterinarians in all aspects relating to patient care. The Team Medicine Assistant will work in the exam room with the Veterinarian, acquiring detailed medical histories and educating clients on various preventive diseases, routine care, and dietary options.

Follow‑up phone calls to assess patients’ recovery from surgery, illness, dietary changes, or medication tolerances are critical and are the responsibility of the Team Medicine Assistant. Organizing the flow of the day, responding to client inquiries, and keeping track of pending and completed laboratory tests will be orchestrated by the Team Medicine Assistant as well.

Qualifications

• Required: Excellent client service skills; Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral); Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg. Previous experience in client education related to preventative medicine, vaccine protocols, nutrition, etc.
• Preferred: Fluently bilingual in French and English (Reading, Writing and Oral). 2 years of experience in client service.
• Skills: Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects; Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, and teamwork skills; Proven ability to organize, take initiative, work independently, exercise good judgment; Decision‑making and critical thinking skills; Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity; Exhibits a positive attitude and uses courtesy, diplomacy and discretion; and, maintains professional ethics and confidentiality.
