Responsibilities
Oversee cargo handling, secure loads, prepare equipment, and apply safe practices in compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations.Perform pre‑, post‑, and en‑route trip inspections, ensuring safety, roadworthiness, and regulatory compliance.Comply with legislation on safe operation, load securement, driver hours of service, occupational health & safety, dangerous goods, and weight / dimension limits.Efficiently maneuver truck and trailer(s) into loading / unloading positions, following signals from loading crew; verify vehicle position and equipment alignment.Operate loading equipment as required; check mobile equipment (e.g., frontend loaders) for mechanical and safety readiness.Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to supervisors.Report safety hazards at load, unload, yard, and shop sites.Maintain accurate paperwork (bill of lading, logs, service status) per provincial and federal regulations.Operate truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones for communication with bases, supervisors, and other drivers.Complete electronic / manual logs of working hours, vehicle service, and repair status.Communicate effectively and courteously with the public, customers, and co‑workers.Assist in loading and unloading trucks; perform periodic inspections to ensure loads are properly secured and protected from the elements (tarping may be required).Clean up debris caused by loading / unloading.Provide feedback to supervisor / disptch regarding customer, mechanical, or delivery issues.Maintain a positive attitude and professional conduct towards customers, co‑workers, and the public.Train others when required.Qualifications
Valid Class 1 truck driver’s license.Driver’s abstract with no suspensions.Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screening.At least two job references.Mandatory B‑train experience.Previous winter and mountain driving experience.Loader operation experience is an asset.Current, clean Class 1 driver’s license and abstract.Equal Opportunity
