Position Details

What You Will Do

Responsible for the successful evaluation, selection, negotiation and pricing for assigned policies to ensure a profitable book of business within established underwriting authorities

Complete data entry of policy information to ensure timeliness and accuracy of transactions

Ensure endorsements, renewals, reissues and cancellations are reviewed and analyzed in accordance with corporate standards and guidelines

Assist in achieving overall renewal rate increases based on exposure and rate adequacy guidelines

Analyze new business for profitability with guidance from a more senior underwriter by assessing exposures and hazards, including loss prevention where required

Develop and maintain professional relationships with brokers and / or customers to enhance understanding of the target market and to contribute to quality service, problem solving, and risk selection all within company service standards

Maintain knowledge of industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes including competitive analysis and market conditions

Cordial interaction with brokers and customers to ensure their satisfaction and high level of business retention

Participate in the communication and education of brokers concerning the corporate underwriting philosophy, policies, and procedures as required

Consistently apply best business practices towards compliance, internal control and operational risk controls

Monitor trends and developments re areas of concern such as loss ratios, risk trends or other discrepancies

Who You Are

  • Post-secondary school education and / or equivalent on the job experience
  • Attained or working towards completing courses towards the CIP and CRM designation
  • A minimum of 3-5 years fleet underwriting experience in long haul trucking is required
  • Working knowledge of underwriting techniques, guidelines, rating programs, risk information sources, coverages, underwriting / technical knowledge and computer workflow procedures
  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel
